An Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants in Kelala District, South Wollo Zone of Amhara Region, Northeastern Ethiopia

This research was carried out to record and document the medicinal plants associated indigenous plant use knowledge of local people in Kelala District Amhara Region, Ethiopia. Ethnobotanical data were collected by conducting preprepared semistructured interview items with 60 informants. Focus group discussion guided field walk also used. Data analyzed using basic analytical tools descriptive statistics. Determination informant consensus factor, fidelity level, ranking performed. A total 82 distributed 79 genera 45 families collected. Of these plants, 43 species used treat human ailments, 33 livestock ailments remaining 6 both ailments. The majority harvested from wild environments. family Solanaceae occupied first rank seven followed Fabaceae, Asteraceae, Cucurbitaceae, Apiaceae, Euphorbiaceae four each. most frequently parts leaves (42.2%) seeds (15.2%), roots (8.1%), fruits (7.6%). Freshly (72.68%) mostly for remedy preparation compared dried forms (24.74%) whereas crushing, which accounted 41.12%, powdering (24.37%) widely methods study area. Expansion farmlands cutting trees heavily threatens therefore needs due attention. High are good candidates further drug discovery development.
